St. Matthias reaches out to the local community and the world with volunteer hours and dollars.
Over the years, St. Matthias has supported the local food bank and our own Anglican initiatives. These include diocesan social services (helping homeless and disadvantaged persons) and, at the national level, the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund.
The 32nd Ottawa (St. Matthias) Scout Group has a particularly long history in the parish, meeting in the parish hall. Over the years there have been Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers all presently active. The scouting programs continue to be outdoors-oriented.
As well, the parish is involved in the Ottawa West Community Support (which has supportive programs for senior and disabled people). In addition, many of our parishioners, whether individually or as part of a parish group, are involved in charitable works that speak particularly to their own interests, and thereby also enrich the effort and knowledge of our larger congregation.
